Salt Artisans

The heart of Guérande salt marshes

Since 1999, Les Artisans du Sel have been carrying on a craft more than a thousand years old: the manual harvesting of salt in the salt marshes of Guérande, Brittany. Their story began with a local salt worker and continues today with Mérédith and Gautier Férard, brother and sister native to the peninsula, who have been leading the company since 2018 with the same passion and respect for nature.

A cultural ingredient, not just a simple condiment

In a world where industrial salt is often reduced to an anonymous, refined product, sel de Guérande reveals its full cultural identity: it is the fruit of the ocean, the wind, the sun and the hand of man. Harvested without machinery or additives, it retains its intact natural trace elements (magnesium, potassium, calcium, zinc) which give it a complex taste and a unique mineral profile.

Fleur de sel and gros sel: the two souls

Fleur de sel: light, aromatic, harvested from the surface of the sea on the calmest and sunniest days. Perfect for raw use, as a finishing touch on sweet and savory dishes.

Gros sel: rustic, mineral, ideal in cooking for baking, marinating and traditional preparations.

Both are 100% natural, never refined, bleached, or treated.

Production that protects the environment

The salt marshes of Guérande are a living ecosystem, home to over 180 species of birds and a unique coastal biodiversity. Salt harvesting, practiced without machinery and without fossil fuel consumption, represents a true model of regenerative agriculture: producing while respecting nature and preserving a historic landscape.

Recognized expertise

Since 2012, the craft of the Guérande paludier has been recognized as part of France's intangible cultural heritage. It means safeguarding a landscape, passing down a tradition, and offering an ingredient that tells the story of an entire region.

Each crystal of Guérande salt contains the breath of the ocean, the strength of the wind, and the warmth of the sun.
