Château de Pourcieux
Provence Rosé: Elegance, Identity, and Terroir
Located in the heart of eastern Provence, at the foot of the famous Montagne Sainte-Victoire, painted hundreds of times by Cézanne, Château de Pourcieux is a wine estate that embodies the authenticity and tradition of the region for the production of the celebrated Rosé de Provence.
Founded in 1760 by Pierre Symphorien Pazery de Thorame, the estate has remained in the hands of the d'Espagnet family for generations. Today, Michel d'Espagnet, along with his children Alix and Rémi, continues to perpetuate this family legacy with passion and dedication.
Their vineyards span 25 hectares cultivated entirely organically, and certified with the Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE) label.
The soils are composed of deep clay-limestone, rich in gypsum, which retains freshness even during the hottest summers. This high-altitude terroir, located at about 300 meters above sea level, is the heart of the DGC Sainte-Victoire, one of the most prestigious complementary appellations of Côtes de Provence, destined to become an official Cru.
A thorough understanding of the soil guides every varietal and agronomic choice. The harvest takes place at night, with cold mechanical harvesting, to best preserve aromas and structure.
At Papillon Gourmet, we have selected two emblematic rosés from Château de Pourcieux:
Côtes de Provence AOP Rosé
A fresh and fruity rosé, obtained from a blend of Syrah, Grenache, and Rolle. The winemaking process involves skin maceration followed by cold settling, with aging in stainless steel tanks on fine lees. The result is a dry, elegant, and versatile wine, ideal for aperitifs and summer dishes.
Côtes de Provence Sainte-Victoire AOP Rosé
This rosé comes from selected plots with chalkier soils, giving the wine greater minerality. The blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Cinsault creates a more structured and gastronomic rosé, with notes of red fruits and a pleasant salinity. Perfect for accompanying Mediterranean dishes, fish, and white meats.
In every drop of Provençal rosé, one finds the light of Cézanne, the silence of the stones, and the warm breath of Montagne Sainte-Victoire.
