The house that champions honey and small French beekeepers

Miels des 7 Familles was founded in Marseille with the idea of bringing real honey back into focus: honey that comes from a specific territory, from an identifiable beekeeper, from a specific bloom.

In a market often dominated by anonymous blends of uncertain origin, the company chooses the opposite approach: making each jar a 100% traceable product, where the consumer knows exactly who and where the honey comes from.

It is not a cooperative, nor a single farm.

It is an independent selection facility that collaborates with a network of small, carefully chosen French beekeepers, supporting them in distribution and rewarding their quality.

The name is inspired by the famous Jeu des 7 Familles, the French card game: each honey is part of a different "family", which tells a story of a unique territory, flowering, and aromatic style.

The birth of the maison

The project was conceived by a group of Marseilles professionals eager to enhance the French beekeeping heritage:

  • to counteract the loss of identity of industrial honey,
  • to give a voice to small beekeepers,
  • to educate consumers about the diversity of French honeys,
  • to ensure absolute transparency.

Each partner beekeeper is carefully selected, personally visited, and included in the network only if they meet three criteria:

  1. Pure and unblended honey
  2. Respect for the environment and bees
  3. Certain and verifiable geographical origin

The operational headquarters are in Marseilles, but collection takes place throughout France thanks to local partners distributed across Provence, the Alps, eastern forests, Camargue, and Mediterranean areas.

The "7 Families" of Honey: A Collection of Terroirs

The ranges offered by the house are based on the idea of the "seven families" game: each jar belongs to a distinct sensory and territorial category.

The main families are:

  • Famille Provençale — lavender, rosemary, garrigue, Mediterranean flowers
  • Famille des Montagnes — rhododendron, high-altitude chestnut, Alpine multiflower
  • Famille des Forêts — forest honey, fir, wild undergrowth flowers
  • Famille du Littoral — marine and aromatic blossoms
  • Famille Méditerranéenne — thyme, savory, Mediterranean scrub
  • Famille des Plaines — acacia, sunflower, rapeseed
  • Famille des Garrigues — aromatic herbs and Provençal shrubs

Each family contains honeys with consistent aromatic characteristics, so that consumers can easily navigate through scents, intensities, and origins.

A philosophy of transparency

Each jar indicates:

  • the beekeeper's name,
  • the exact location of collection,
  • the harvest year,
  • the predominant flowering,
  • the absence of blending or pasteurization.

A rare and courageous choice, which protects the work of producers and restores to French honey the dignity of a grand produit du terroir.
